Have you ever pondered why you're single and lonely – have you ever considered that this shouldn't be the case – have you ever wept yourself to sleep, fearing you'll be forgotten? Now is the time to stop wondering because your ideal spouse exists, but how can they find their perfect match while you wait at home wondering?

Is it the actual technique of asking for a date that is holding you back, or is it the fear of rejection that is holding you back?

If you want to leave your lonely environment, you must overcome these two fear elements. Do you yearn for friendship since you're single and lonely?

So what if the other sex declines your date invitation? You are not alone. Thousands of people who are single and lonely are faced with rejection and resistance, yet they persevere until they hit it rich. The positive thing about rejection is that you've just discovered that the person you liked isn't someone you'd want to settle down with – and hence isn't your ideal partner. When you date the wrong person, you will experience heartache.

Is it the face-to-face approach that makes you nervous? Stop obsessing about insignificant details because there are a plethora of alternative ways to relieve yourself of the burden of wondering why you are alone and lonely.

Okay, if that's how you want it, keep your distance. If you believe your ideal spouse is on the other side of the room, send them a warm grin; if they return the smile, that's fine. This is an excellent start because you have attracted the attention of a perplexed individual who is now wondering whether the smile was intended for them. They may approach now to inquire about the smile, and you can proceed from there. (Not all of them will come over.) Talk with your eyes - eye contact combined with a facial expression that says I'm interested in you may work wonders for most people. Don't be surprised by any of the reactions you might receive from this glancing approach; what you thought was a good face expression may have appeared to the person on the other side of the room as a pervert in the corner.

Practice your expression techniques in the mirror at home until you like what you see - and if you want to go out with you, why shouldn't anyone else?

If the prospect of being single and lonely makes you nervous, try using handwritten messages. Remember, the perfect choice of words can provide a ray of optimism. Nothing overly sentimental, and don't say things like "I love myself, who do you love" if you don't want to ruin any chances you might have had. You'll receive a reaction if you show enough interest in a person in the proper way - it won't always be the one you want, but you'll know where you stand.

If only the lonely would chose to mingle, they would no longer be single.
